You start by picking a direction rather than a symptom — calmer, more focused, ready for sleep, or steadier under stress. That single choice already narrows down which meditation protocol and breathing rhythm make sense for the next few minutes.
The six directions are Calm, Focused, Positive, Grounded, Energized and Sleep. You can change your mind at any point before a session is built; nothing is locked in by choosing one.
You can stop there, or add a line or two in your own words about what's actually going on — a stressful meeting in an hour, a mind that won't slow down at midnight, a body that's tired but wired. Wyphi reads that context and uses it, alongside your chosen feeling, to shape the session more precisely.
Nothing about this step is required. Plenty of people just pick a feeling and go.
Wyphi interprets your intention and selects a meditation protocol and a breathing rhythm to match it.
The protocol is the shape of the session — what it asks you to pay attention to, and in what order. The breathing rhythm sits alongside it: a simple in/out pattern, like a longer exhale than inhale, or a box pattern with holds on each side. Read more about what gets personalized and why.
You pick the length, the amount of guidance, the narration voice and the soundscape — the things that decide how the session sounds to you.
A voice is a person guiding you; a soundscape is the ambience underneath — rain, ocean, a fireplace, a forest at night. Wyphi may also apply a brainwave-oriented audio profile and, if you've set a preference, a tonal frequency or a Golden Ratio treatment. Voice and soundscape are about how the session feels to listen to; the audio profile is a separate, quieter layer underneath.
It means Wyphi selects the tonal foundation for a session itself, based on the session profile, instead of asking you to choose a number.
You can override it and pick a specific tonal foundation if you enjoy doing that. Either way it's a design and personalization choice rather than a medical one — the tonal frequencies page and the Golden Ratio page explain what each one actually does to the sound.
Once every piece is chosen, Wyphi assembles the actual session — script, breathing cues, voice and background audio — and starts playing. There's no browsing a library beforehand. The session exists because you asked for it, shaped by what you said.
Your first session is free and complete, so you can hear the whole approach before deciding anything about a membership.
Headphones are recommended, because the approved audio is designed for them — but a speaker option is available and clearly marked.
Brainwave-oriented audio depends on each ear hearing a slightly different tone, which only works on headphones. On a speaker, Wyphi plays a version designed for that instead, so the meditation and breathing still work as intended. More on that in binaural beats, explained.
Every session you play stays in your library, where you can rename it, save the ones worth returning to, and remove the rest. Nothing you write in your own words is ever used as a public label or shared.
For a specific situation, start with meditation for sleep, focus or stress. For how honest the claims are, where the evidence stands separates what's well supported from what's experimental. Everything is indexed in Learn.
