Binaural beats in Wyphi

Binaural beats add another dimension to Wyphi's meditation audio.

They are created by playing two slightly different tones — one to each ear — so that the difference between those tones is perceived as a rhythmic beat.

Wyphi incorporates this technique as one of the tonal layers that can accompany your meditation.

What are binaural beats?

A binaural beat begins with two tones that are close in frequency but not identical.

For example, if one ear receives a 200 Hz tone and the other receives a 210 Hz tone, the difference between them is 10 Hz.

That difference creates the characteristic rhythmic perception known as a binaural beat.

Wyphi uses carefully generated tone pairs with specific frequency differences as part of its meditation audio design.

Why headphones matter

True binaural audio depends on each ear receiving its own tone separately.

That means headphones or earbuds are the best way to experience a Wyphi session that uses binaural beats.

With speakers, the left and right tones mix together in the room before reaching your ears, so you are no longer receiving the same separated binaural presentation.

How Wyphi builds the signal

Wyphi generates the left and right tones digitally using precisely defined frequencies.

The difference between those frequencies creates the binaural beat used for that audio profile.

The binaural signal lives in the Meditation Tones layer, which stays separate from the other parts of your session:

  • Voice
  • Soundscape
  • Meditation Tones

This allows Wyphi to combine binaural audio with narration, breathing guidance and environmental sound without turning them into one fixed audio track.

Different frequency profiles

Wyphi can use different frequency-difference profiles depending on the design of the session.

These profiles create different rhythmic qualities within the tonal layer while the meditation itself continues to combine guidance, breathing, sound and frequency into one experience.

You don't need to calculate frequencies or configure individual left- and right-ear tones yourself. Wyphi builds the underlying signal as part of the session.

Binaural beats and your soundscape

Your meditation tones and your environmental soundscape are separate parts of the audio experience.

A rain, ocean, forest, flowing-water, fireplace or brown-noise soundscape can play alongside the tonal layer without becoming part of the binaural signal itself.

This separation also allows each part of the session to be mixed independently.

Control the experience

During a Wyphi session, open the mixer to adjust:

  • Voice
  • Soundscape
  • Meditation Tones

The Meditation Tones control lets you change how prominent the binaural or tonal layer is relative to the rest of your session.

You can customize the balance yourself or use Reset to Wyphi Recommended to return to Wyphi's default mix.

Part of a larger meditation experience

Binaural beats are one component of Wyphi's broader approach to meditation audio.

Depending on the session, Wyphi can bring together guided meditation, paced breathing, environmental soundscapes and frequency-based tonal design in a single customizable experience.

The goal is not to make you manage the technology.

It's to give you access to these tools in a format that feels simple to use while still giving you control over how your session sounds.
